What I Love About My Dad

It's hard to know where to start, but there about 1 million things that make my dad the finest human I know. He was here for 5 days and now he's gone and I really miss him. He makes me laugh 10,000 times a day. He doesn't try to be funny - he just is. Everything he sees is something happy or positive and when you see the world through those eyes, you smile a lot. He has never met a stranger and he doesn't even have to try very hard to find something in common with every person he meets (bag lady, a rancher, business man, soldier, pilot, or circus clown) - my dad has experienced what they have and will make them see that "he's their kind of people!" He approaches everything with enthusiasm - with the ADDness, it takes a while sometimes to get him to approach certain things, but when he gets there, he goes all the way! He refuses to see the bad in people - he would defend an ax-murderer to his own death if he saw a single ounce of goodness in them. He is over and above generous. He never flinches to give you the shirt of his back, pick up the check, loan you a car, a house, or give of his time. He LOVES his family and especially his kids. I am happy to know that I really can't disappoint him - ever. He loves unconditionally. He has a freakishly good memory and stores so much helpful and worthless knowledge - he would definitely be my lifeline on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. He isn't afraid of hard work - again, he bounces around like a gerbil on speed most of the time - but he isn't afraid of work, it just takes him a while to focus. He's interested in everything - he's fun to shop with, talk a walk with, or travel with, because everything catches his eye and he can equally enjoy a rock on the side of the road, a gun show, a baby shower, going skiing, making crafts, a concert, or a good dinner. He's a snazzy dresser and always makes a point to look nice and updated. He makes a mean biscuits and gravy. He exudes confidence and makes me feel better about myself. I have never heard him complain of his body, aging, nothing- he is confident he has the best genetic jeans around and I dare you to tell him otherwise! If you are a third cousin 7-times removed, married to an uncle of a stepsister, YOU ARE FAMILY to my dad. He has a "BF" and isn't ashamed to tell everyone in the world how much he loves his best friend (they have Saturday dates every single week) and it is the priority of his day. I love that he insisted on traveling and taking my brother and I as many places as he could as we grew up - he knew it was the most important education we could have received - and he was right. He is smart, gives great advice, is an expert on everything, gives lots of hugs and kisses and is just the greatest... I could keep going on, but I'll stop there. Love you dad. Matine adores you too - but we aren't really surprised by that - you are like her very own living Santa Claus, Peter Pan, Daddy Warbucks cartoon!

That was so beautifully written Brooke! Certainly brought tears to my eyes but that's because I know everything you said is true. He is the best big brother a person could ever ask for and I am blessed that God made him mine.
