Our baby, the fig.

I am still without camera. Which means you will not be seeing the massive amounts of SNOW we have in our yard and all over our blessed town. You will not see (yet) the newly completed wood stove / hearth installation project that has been brewing in the basement. Nor will you see yet the lovely (actually quite ugly so far) pictures of me as a pregnant woman.

No fear, I ordered a camera today (with the help of my techy and research prone brother).

What I can tell you is that tomorrow, October 14 - my friend Keely Brunel's Birthday- will be the start of my 11th week of pregnancy. This also means I am 1 week away from the end of the entire first trimester! Wow how time has flown. I have a feeling the first 11 weeks of the babies life will not go as quickly. I hear it involves a lot of sleep deprivation, crying, and child attached to boob.

For those who are interested in this thing... This is what our baby looks like. Well, it doesn't look like this (we hope), but it is the size of a fig.

Last week they said it was the size of a kumquat... Who actually knows that much about kumquats? Who knows what a kumquat is?

The fun facts they don't tell you about pregnancy:

1. You get zitty (yes, pre-teen zits and acne), and not just on your face... but your back too.
2. You burp a lot.
3. You just get "thick" - not cute and round yet - just thick - like when you eat too much chinese food.
4. You don't sleep! The baby isn't screaming or kicking yet, and I can't seem to sleep through the night. Maybe it's the husband that has taken over my side of the bed, or the 3 dogs that like to sleep on my legs...

In reality, I have really enjoyed pregnancy so far! It has been remarkably easy and uneventful to this point. It has been such a blessing to have so many friends and family so excited for us.

Laurie has outfitted us with every possible contraption or article of clothing we might ever need, we already have nearly everything we need for the nursery - cribs, strollers, baby carriers, high chairs, play pens, blankets, cloth diapers, you name it!

We had our first Dr. appointment last week. Highlights of that were:

1. Peter getting uncomfortable when they took us into the little room to ask our "history." This involved our genetic history (who has what diseases and ailments in your family, etc.), but also the sexual history. I am not sure anyone before has ever asked Peter if he had syphilis.

2. He was in the room for the "check-up." Ladies know what that involves - "Please put your feet in these stirrups and slide forward." He had NO idea what was about to happen.

3. I thought he might pass out when while she was examining she asked Peter if he'd like to "scoot around and see my cervix!" For those wondering - he politely declined, and had he not, I would have for him.

I love to hear about baby Howell! Keep it coming! The only thing I can highly recommend (if you plan to have baby sleep in the bed with you) is the Summer Infant Video Monitor. Then, you can see them and tell if they really need you, or if they are about to roll off the bed 4ft., which may actually hurt them! Poor Riley has done that 4 times already when we were THERE WITH HIM and never with the monitor....
Anyways, so excited for you. I do have to say "women and childbearing" things are horrible for the men. I think it's a small price to pay for them not actually having to birth these children though- I guess I'm a feminist!
