Happy Birthday Clark! I got you a Swiss Person!
Anyone that knows my brother knows his obsession with Switzerland, Swiss Cheese, Swiss Flags, Swiss women. We are not sure where it comes from. He has claimed his entire life that it was because he was Swiss. Not until he set out to prove it did we believe him. We always thought it was another Clark Quirk and something he just obsessed over, like inventing the new platform shoe or trying to market Roller Skating Soundtracks.
Sure enough, we are part Swiss. So, Clark was right and his love for anything pure and Swiss has evolved. We took a family ski trip there, he talks about it, he bought Swiss Army luggage... you get my point.
Well. Clark and dad arrived a couple of weeks ago... i was working that day. About 1 hour before closing time a skinny nice looking guy stumbles in the shop, obviously exhausted from road biking. He was looking for a place to camp for the night after riding 60 miles into a head wind all day. I called campgrounds, hotels, everything and there was NO place for him to stay.
My mind was churning... These sweet little Swiss man who can't speak english needs a place to stay... we have extra beds... Clark would LOVE this for his birthday... So, when Peter got back to the shop I asked him "if we could keep him." Sure enough, Lukas (who is biking solo from Calgary to San Diego!!!!) came home to meet the Cottongims/Howells! God bless him. He had no idea what kind of LOUD crazy, American family he just stumbled into.
He stayed the night, we took him for a good fatty American dinner at the Rib and Chop House and the next day we drove him and his bike to Yellowstone... we were passing through the Park on our way to Willie Nelson in Red Lodge (another post).
Lukas is now a brother. We love you brother Lukas... hope your trip is going well.
