Cooke City Skiing - in May - Part I of the Weekend

We spent the weekend in Cooke City, Mt. Look it up on a map and you will see it is right on the border of Yellowstone National Park, Montana, and Wyoming. In fact, for us to get there we have to travel through Yellowstone National Park. Poor us. Such an ugly place. (sense the sarcasm please). On my drive in on Saturday night I saw in 1-hour: a black bear, 12 big horn sheep, hundreds of bison and bison calves, pronghorn antelope, 2 wolf packs, eagles, osprey, coyote, elk.

Will, Levia, Peter, Wolf and I were there on Saturday and Darcy, Randy and Jessie joined us on Sunday.

We camped at a really awesome clear cut (sarcasm again). Actually it was quite perfect for the dogs to run and we had incredible views of the Beartooth peaks that make that area so famous. Peter and I slept in our truck, Wolf outside for a while, and Levia and Will in their truck. We LOVE car camping these days. We were able to bring nearly all the nice amenities of home, spread out and haul it all home with such ease. The dogs love it of course. They guarded camp for us and even spooked a coyote on Sunday morning who was howling about 100 yards from our cars in the trees.

We did lots of MAY skiing, lots of riding around in the sleds, playing with dogs, enjoying good friends company, and most importantly - getting the most out of a FABULOUS life of adventure in the mountains. Again, I love this place.

Levia getting ready to ski the coulouir behind her.

Wolf getting ready to ski that chute. Ah sweet spring corn snow!

the WOLF!

Sweet Oliver balancing himself on this very small precipice / ridgetop.

Someone skiing some really nice lines!

Our white trash car-camp set up in the clearcut.
The campfire and burger dinner.

It's Wolf's birthday WEEK. We celebrated with a delicious pie that his honey, Megan made him and sent for us all to enjoy. We missed Megan, but sure loved her chocolate peanut butter pie.

Brooke waking from her sleep in the Tundra.

Randy towing three of us back up for another great run. The great thing about Cooke City. - if you don't want to skin back uphill for another run . . . Someone can run you up with a sled!
