Long overdue post from 2 weeks ago....
Well, it is official. Fondue and old pictures DO bring people together.
The Cox's hosted what I hope to be the FIRST ANNUAL Fondue - Slide Show Party Feast. Mike, Laurie, Levia, Will, Jeannette, Matt, Megan, Wolf, Ivy, Scotty, Kate, Meg, Bob, Chris, Caid, Brad, Peter and myself fondued: elk, shrimp, halibut, scallops, chicken, curry sauces, chutney sauces, bananas, pineapple, strawberries, apples, chocolate, breads cheeses and MUCH more. Everyone brought some sort of fondue / sauce, appetizers, or salads. It was a feast to say the least! (if you missed it, that rhymes)
We then spent THREE hours learning all sorts of fun and interesting things about Planet Earth and each other. Each couple / person had to limit their slide show to 30 pics (so we chose wisely). We got to see Drake and Ivy's cool wedding /honeymoon trip in New Zealand, Laurie and Mike's young family starter life in Alaska, fun trips in Montana, Alaska, Bahamas, Europe, and some fun stuff in our own backyards. Scotty (who I thought was a simple cabinet builder) lived in Antarctica TWICE as a research scientist studying glacial lakes and he showed us Emperor penguins, "death valley" where there were 2,000 year old mummified seals, areas where the highest order of human life is lichen, massive glaciers and what Scotty looks like naked and swimming in ice when it's 20 below in Antarctica. Megan and Wolf's Patagonia honeymoon was awesome and Wolf taught us all a cool new word - circambulate. It means to walk a circumfrence (like around a whole mountain or area) on foot. We saw all our children when they were puppies (and for the real kids, when they were newborns), hear fun stories and tales of travels.
I think we all wanted to go sell our houses, pack a bag and travel! I know I would settle for a nice spring and some good hiking weather at this point.
It was a great night. So far, no one called in sick from any undercooked meats, or drank too much. Success! We sure have a lot of fun, interesting and adventurous friends with some CRAZY life stories.
