To the dogs...

I got a call from a friend here in Livingston who does some freelance production and writing work. A British film crew is coming to Livingston to film one of our local sled dog teams for a documentary about the Evolution of Dogs. She needed someone with a snowmobile to drive with a camera man on the back of the sled, along side the dog team so they can film the dogs in action.

She wanted a chick to do it of course, b/c she wanted to show that in Montana - girls drive sleds.... But, unfortunately, I just couldn't take today of off work, so Peter is my stand in. In reality, he will be a much better driver than me and probably not kill someone, but I still really wanted to do it.

So, he left at 8am this morning to drive his sled, see a cool dog sled team do their thing, and meet British film makers. Peter has strict instructions to take lots of pictures, which we will post tonight.

To get my dog fix and distract me from the fact that I am in an office and not doing something much cooler, I brought our old man Brutus to work with me.

Brooke and Brutus ... Happy at work today....

Benefits of Dogs in the Workplace
I am a big supporter of dogs (good and well behaved ones of course) in the workplace. I have the luxury of being able to bring my hounds to work with me on occasion and they are some of my favorite days at work. At my former job at Big Brothers Big Sisters, my old Tasha girl was quickly a pseudo-mascot and would greet people at the door, visit employees and let them pet here when they needed a little stress break... What a giver that girl... She was an awesome dog... Moment of silence for the Tash-mi-nosh....

Anyways, a study published in the Journal of Occupational Health Psychology confirmed that people enjoy having pets in the workplace, as it reduces stress, boosts staff morale, and makes the work environment more comfortable.

Some quick facts about the benefits of mans best friend in the workplace:
  • Staff morale and worker productivity increased with pets in the workplace.
  • Camaraderie among employees increased.
  • Happier employees had enhanced job performance.
  • Increased sales were reported by store owners who take their dogs to work.
  • Dogs can serve as a crime deterrent.
  • Focus may increase as employees don't have to rush out at the end of the day to get home to Spot, or spend time at work worrying about their pets at home.
  • Pets make the workplace and employees appear more friendly and warm.
I love dogs.

I love dogs too! So jealous about what Pete's doing today.
I'm getting a massage at 4!!! Can't wait! Josh got home last night, but had to go up Northwest (3 hours away) this morning! I've never met someone (other than my Dad) who works harder than he does.
have a good day with Brutus!

Yikes! What happened to Tasha? On a side note, I wish we would have called you when we had to give up our Australian shepherd a couple of years ago... He needed a farm/ranch to work and listened to Kris like he was God but would practically attack me once Kris walked out the door to work. :)

rachel, taht is hilarious taht it didn't like you... we have plenty of dogs at the moment.

sweet tash left us last april. she was such a rockstar. she was 14 years old and just wore out... she was a husky, so for that breed, she was pretty darn old. she was the best dog ever though... as sweet and sensitive as they come.
