BEAUTIFUL BULL AND COW ELKAmerica's first national park - Yellowstone National Park - established by congress and Teddy Roosevelt as Presiden (a reader brought to my attention that it was NOT Roosevelt, but Grant - see comments for more info)t.... it is truly a national treasure, a magical place, and one of a kind. It is the home of hundreds of species of wildlife, natural wonders, and geological features that most humans only dream of seeing in their lifetime.
It is a mere 50 miles from out doorstep.
Today while Brooke worked at raising money for an organization that protects this unique place, Peter and Scott Cottongim were able to visit, see, smell and hear that very same place.

You will find - big horn sheep (wild ones- not in a zoo), elk (real ones - not "old deer" as some tourons refer to them as), buffalo (we call them bison), and of course - the ellusive WOLF...they are real folks and their howl and cry will bring anyone to tears.
Peter and Dad were lucky enough to see and hear this pack from 200 yards away.
The winters in Yellowstone are as harsh, wild, and extreme as any place on earth.
I beg any of you reading this to come and visit. Yellowstone it the #1 reason I decided to move to this state. It is magical- and that is the under-statement of the century. It evokes in me a connection to the earth and world that no other place, event, or person can.

WOW is all I can say....
FYI,
Teddy Roosevelt did not establish Yellowstone. Grant was President when Yellowstone was established almost 30 years before Roosevelt entered the White House (in fact, Roosevelt was just a boy when Yellowstone came into being.)
Oh, and we have something in common. I'm moving to Bozeman next week myself, and Yellowstone is the only reason.

Anyhow, you are correct... Roosevelt was not in fact a founder of Yellowstone (I will make that correction), but in my opinion one of the greatest proponents of the national park system (Yellowstone in particular), helping many parks come under national protection and management, and enhancing parks like Yellowstone. I think he is cool and in my mind I like to thank him for Yellowstone and all the others! Welcome to Montana... You'll fit in well in Bozeman :)
Hi Brooke! Do you know Jim? Anyways the Lamar is also our favorite part of the park!! This winter we should enjoy a day of it!!
