Laurie, Jeannette, Ivy, Darcy and I decided to have a "Balls to the Walls" recycled gear sale at the Farmer's Market yesterday. We, along with our significant others (S.O.'s) did major clean outs of our basements, garages, sheds and closets to try and get rid of some of the older gear that has been collecting dust in our homes. It felt GREAT to purge this stuff and make room for newer, nicer stuff (that is what I had to tell Peter when I begged him to get rid of at least 2 or his 12 hunting down jackets).
So, we coordinate the logistics: tables, hanging racks, money boxes, petty cash, extra labels. Laurie even had the bright idea to give away warm wassel (like a spiced apple cider) and shortbread cookies. It was Martha Stewart meets Rambo-Camping Chicks.
We were hot! People were scoping our goods and we had A LOT OF IT!!!! 4 tables worth with hanging racks and many many skis and boot sections. I think we sold a few vests and coats simply because the weather was getting cold- quickly.
Peter called me as he got off the river to see how it was going - and to warn me that a storm would be hitting us in 10 minutes. My famous last words "nah, we're gonna hold out and keep selling" has now translated to a truck bed full of wet, molding old gear that I still don't want in my house!
The rain came and as we predicted, it did NOT stop.... We were hunched under our tables (on our nice therma-rest pads mind you). We had on half our rain gear that we were trying to sell... and until the last customer of the market was leaving we decided the rain MAY not stop adn maybe we should load our soaking wet gear into our cars and go get warmed up.
I was so disappointed that the "total gym" made famous by Christie Brinkley or Chuck Norris (I can't quite remember which) is still in my possession!
We did make lemonade of our lemons and quickly moved our soaking wet bodies to our house where we laughed about our adventures in re-sale and soaked in a nice warm hot-tub with a couple bottles of wine.
Jeannette and Matt ended up having to pay $6.00 by the time it was all said and done, and Pete and I made enough to take ourselves and a few others out or drinks in Florida.
Live and learn... I still don't know what I will do with all this stuff piled in my car!
